Post-Remediation Verification

Why independence is the whole point

Verification performed by the contractor who did the removal is a self-assessment. Holt Mold Engineering does not perform remediation, which means our evaluation of a remediated area has no interest in the outcome beyond reporting what is actually there.

That distinction matters most at the moment it is easiest to skip. Once drywall is closed up, anything left behind is expensive to revisit. Verification is the last low-cost opportunity to confirm the work accomplished what it was supposed to.

What verification examines

A verification visit covers several things at once. First, was the moisture source actually corrected — because an area that is clean but still wet will not stay clean. Second, are affected materials appropriately removed or treated according to the scope, with no remaining visible growth or debris on framing and cavity surfaces. Third, do moisture readings on remaining materials compare appropriately with unaffected material of the same type. Fourth, was containment maintained so that adjacent areas were not cross-contaminated. Where documentation of conditions is needed, air or surface sampling can be collected as part of the visit.

Timing

Verification belongs after remediation and drying are complete and before reconstruction begins. At that stage cavities are still open, framing is visible, moisture readings are meaningful and any issue found can still be corrected without demolition. Once the wall is closed, verification is significantly less useful and correction is significantly more expensive.
